Schomberg penalty kill dominates in 6-3 defeat of PenetangPenetang Memorial CC Mon, Feb 16, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
Despite having to fight off several power plays, the Schomberg Cougars were able to defeat the Penetang Kings, 6-3. The win gave Schomberg a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series. The Cougars forced Penetang's goalies to work between the pipes, getting 50 shots and forcing 44 saves. Adam Redgate made 29 stops and Martin Lauzon made 15. Schomberg was helped by Brandon Yorke, who tallied one goal and one assist. Yorke scored 1:47 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Schomberg. John Gage provided the assist. Schomberg additionally got points from Gage, who also registered one goal and one assist. Schomberg also had goals scored by Brandon Savoy, who had two and Michael Longato and Cam Russell, who each put in one. In addition, Schomberg received assists from JP Crescenzi, who had two, Derek Neilly, who had three, and Joseph Mete, Tristan Joseph, and Connor Whiteside, who each chipped in one. The Kings' offense rang up 46 shots on the Cougars' net. Penetang was helped by Jordan Schwartz, who finished with one goal. Schwartz scored on the power play 12:24 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Schomberg. The Kings had gotten the advantage when Schomberg's Justin Formenton was sent off for hooking. Hayden Cole assisted on the tally. Penetang also got points from Zach Bertucca, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Mackenzie Bumstead also scored for Penetang. Other players who recorded assists for Penetang were Matt VanBoven, who had two and Ryan Hackett and Craig Robinson, who contributed one each. Taylor Ewart recorded 43 saves for the Cougars. Schomberg incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with 11 minors. Penetang incurred 24 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
