Charlotte erases deficit to stun New York, 13-12

The Charlotte Hounds rallied from three goals down to secure a 13-12 win over the New York Lizards.

Charlotte took a 1-0 advantage on a goal by Mike Chanenchuk at 0:36 in the 1st quarter. The Hounds went down 12-9 after New York's Mike Stone put the ball home at 1:59 in the 4th quarter. After evening things up at 12-12 on a goal by Kevin Cunningham at 11:44 in the 4th, Charlotte got the game-winner from Ned Crotty at 13:23 in the 3rd quarter.

The teams traded the lead seven times. The Hounds took over the lead for good with a goal by John Haus 8:20 into the 3rd to make the score 9-8.

Charlotte's offense was clicking better than usual and put 54 shots on goal during the game, better than the 39 shots per game it averages.

Charlotte also got points from Joey Sankey, who also registered two goals and two assists to lead the team in points, Terry Kimener, who also registered one goal and one assist and Haus, who also registered two goals and one assist. Will Haus also scored for Charlotte. Other players who recorded assists for Charlotte were Mike Sawyer, who had one.

The Lizards could not produce their normal offensive output. New York puts an average of 15.4 balls into the net per game. The Lizards kept the Hounds' goalie busy throughout the game, and Pierce Bassett made 12 saves on 24 shots.

New York was helped by Tommy Palasek, who registered three goals. New York additionally got points from Rob Pannell, who also registered two goals and one assist and Crotty, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for New York included Matt Gibson and Palasek, who each put in three and Hakeem Lecky, who had one. More assists for New York came via Greg Gurenlian, Steve DeNapoli and Kyle Hartzell, who each chipped in one.

Drew Adams rejected 22 shots on goal for the Lizards. New York won 20 faceoffs to eight for Charlotte. Gurenlian won 20 for New York.
