Byfield nets hat trick, leads York Simcoe Express to 4-2 win over Thunder Bay Kings

Quinton Byfield netted a hat trick to lead York Simcoe Express over Thunder Bay Kings, 4-2.

Byfield's first goal came 1:10 into the second period. He then added goals at 9:25 into the second and at 51 seconds into the third.

York Simcoe Express' penalty kill excelled, as York Simcoe Express gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays.

York Simcoe Express was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 14 penalty minutes.

Tyler Challis also scored for York Simcoe Express. Other players who recorded assists for York Simcoe Express were Rees Cameron, Brycen Pascal, Evan Vierling, and Daniel Gaeta, who each chipped in one.

Thunder Bay Kings was helped by Owen Perala, who grabbed one goal. Perala scored on the power play 6:29 into the third period to make the score 3-2 York Simcoe Express. Thunder Bay Kings had taken the advantage when York Simcoe Express' Bryson Posa got sent off for body checking. Michael Stubbs picked up the assist. Thunder Bay Kings additionally got points from Stubbs, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Thunder Bay Kings received assists from Mason Bazaluk and Cole Mackenzie, who contributed one each.

York Simcoe Express' Gavin Johnstone stopped 15 shots out of the 17 that he faced. York Simcoe Express registered two goals on five power play opportunities. Eric Vanska made 20 saves for Thunder Bay Kings on 24 shots. Thunder Bay Kings incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
