GAME RECAP

Gage lifts Schomberg over Huntsville, 4-0

Canada Summit Centre    Sun, Feb 08, 2015

The Schomberg Cougars relied on the scoring touch of John Gage, who netted two goals, to beat the Huntsville Otters, 4-0.

Gage found the back of the net 9:14 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Schomberg and again while on the power play 10:29 into the second to make the score 4-0 Schomberg.

The win by Schomberg broke a deadlock and gave the Cougars a 2-1 advantage in the best of seven series.

Schomberg's penalty kill excelled, as the Cougars gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

Schomberg forced Otters' goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, launching 37 shots and forcing 33 saves. Connor Christanson made 32 stops and Hunter Ferguson made one. The Cougars stifled Huntsville's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Schomberg also got points from Ian Reid, who also registered one goal and one assist and Cam Russell, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Schomberg were Tristan Joseph and Brandon Yorke, who contributed one each and Blake Culley and Justin Formenton, who each chipped in two.

The Otters' penalty kill managed to stymie Schomberg's power play, giving up only one goal while playing with a man down.

Taylor Ewart rejected 24 shots on goal for the Cougars. Schomberg incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Huntsville ended with 31 minutes in penalty time with 13 minors and one major. Team's Jake McIntyre, Nathan Zantingh, and Christanson were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
