Orillia beats Stayner 3-2 after comeback scare

The Stayner Siskins tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Orillia Terriers held on for a 3-2 victory.

Orillia made the score 3-1 on a goal by Jason Binnie at 18:55 in the second period, and Stayner got as close as 3-2 when Dylan Bursey scored 12:11 into the third period.

The win by the Terriers broke a deadlock and gave Orillia a 2-1 advantage in the best of seven series.

The Terriers were led by Binnie, who grabbed one goal.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 12:45 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Others who scored for Orillia included Mathew White and Sean Crowe, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Orillia were Ryan Tucci, who had two and Konnor Blimke and Jamie Borrelli, who contributed one each.

The Siskins kept Orillia's goalie busy throughout the game, and Gordie Weiss made 32 saves on 34 shots.

Stayner was helped by Derick Robertson, who registered one goal. Robertson scored on the power play 5:31 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Stayner. The Siskins had gained a power play chance when Matt Clifford was whistled for elbowing. Christian Papineau assisted on the tally. In addition, Stayner received assists from Sean Healy, who had one.

The Terriers totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major and went 1-for-7 on the power play. Orillia ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Tyler Mason was ejected from the game. Trevor Bloch rejected 22 shots on goal for Stayner. The Siskins totaled 23 minutes in penalty time with nine minors and one major and went 2-for-5 on the power play. For Stayner, Ryan Hyndman was ejected from the game.
