Blenheim wins tough contest against Alvinston, 5-3

The Blenheim Blades gutted out a close 5-3 win against the Alvinston Flyers.

Blenheim gained the winning advantage on a goal by Matt Clark 16:16 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

The win by the Blades clinched the best of seven series at 4-2.

Nolan VandenBoorn had a great game for Blenheim, netting two goals. VandenBoorn scored on the power play at 1:30 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Blenheim and again while 17:05 into the first to make the score 2-2.

Alvinston was unable to stop the Blades from sending pucks towards the net, and Blenheim eventually piled up 33 shots on goal.

Blenheim additionally got points from Clark, who also registered one goal and one assist. Blenheim also had goals scored by Kirk McKillop and Derek Muzzatti, who each put in one. In addition, Blenheim received assists from Lucas Hickey, who had two and Bryan Boersma, Dylan Muzzatti, Dylan Smith, Kellen Kaniecki, and Corbin Hagerman, who contributed one each.

The Flyers were helped by Blake Hayes, who tallied one goal. Hayes scored 2:11 into the third period to make the score 3-3. Joe Archer picked up the assist. Others who scored for Alvinston included Josh Moore and Kirklin Dorman, who scored one goal each. More assists for Alvinston came via Hunter Bryce, Brady Swan, Karsten Berg, and Chad Rainsberry, who each chipped in one.

Klinton Kenney rejected 24 shots on goal for the Blades. Blenheim incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Brett Avery made 28 saves for Alvinston on 32 shots. The Flyers incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
