Pettitt's big game bests Wellesley in 8-4 Ayr winWellesley Wed, Feb 11, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
A stellar performance between the pipes by Andre Keire helped the Ayr Centennials defeat the Wellesley Applejacks, 8-4. The win by Ayr clinched the best of seven series at 4-0. The Centennials got the win with help from a great game by Jordan Pettitt, who had one goal and two assists. Pettitt scored 14:04 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Tyler Mellish assisted on the tally. Ayr forced Applejacks' goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, totaling 54 shots and forcing 46 saves. Keaton Weiss made 20 stops and Tim Bester made 26. Ayr additionally got points from Brendan Schaefer, who also registered one goal and one assist. Ayr also had goals scored by Jackson White, Austin Kovrig, and Andrew Richard, who scored two goals each. Other players who recorded assists for Ayr were Jake Whibbs and Sean Mitchell, who contributed one each and Quinn Diamond and Colin Schuringa, who each chipped in two. Wellesley forced Centennials' netminders to work between the pipes, firing 31 shots and forcing 27 saves. Keire made 25 stops and Blair Wickett AP made two. The Applejacks were helped by Sean McEwan, who had one goal. McEwan scored 1:20 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wellesley. Alex Uttley picked up the assist. Others who scored for Wellesley included Brady Gerber, Blake Hetherington, and Matt Schieck, who each put in one. In addition, Wellesley received assists from Reid Denstedt, Tyler Seguin, Justin Plant, Hayden Stewart, and Chris Beauchesne, who contributed one each. The Centennials incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Wellesley incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
