Ayr rolls over Wellesley, 5-1North Dumfries Thu, Feb 05, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Ayr Centennials were firing on all cylinders against the Wellesley Applejacks, and when the final buzzer sounded Centennials emerged with a 5-1 win. The win gave Ayr a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series. Wellesley was stymied by the Centennials' netminder Andre Keire, who stopped 29 shots during the victory. Despite the solid performance, Keire will actually see his goals against average rise, as it stood at 1.0 entering the contest. Ayr pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 14 penalty minutes. The Centennials forced the Applejacks' goaltenders to work in net, taking 39 shots and forcing 34 saves. Tim Bester made 25 stops and Keaton Weiss made nine. Ayr excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. The Centennials were helped by Anthony Pullia, who racked up one goal and one assist. Pullia scored on the power play 18:28 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Ayr. Ayr had taken the advantage when Wellesley's Reid Denstedt got sent off for cross checking. Connor MacLean assisted on the tally. Ayr also had goals scored by Jeff Howlett, who had two and Jake Whibbs and Felix Lantaigne, who each put in one. More assists for Ayr came via Coleton Madge, Jackson White, Tyler Mellish, Jordan Pettitt, Andrew Richard, and Colin Schuringa, who contributed one each. The Applejacks were led by Matt Schieck, who scored the team's only goal. Schieck scored 2:33 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wellesley. Tyler Seguin picked up the assist. The Centennials registered two goals on five power play opportunities. Team's Whibbs and Quinn Diamond were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Wellesley incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
