Burford falls to Norwich after surprising comeback

The Norwich Merchants climbed out of a two-goal hole to beat the Burford Bulldogs, 4-3.

Norwich never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Merchants trailed 2-0 after a goal by Burford's Mitch Randell at 1:05 in the first period. Norwich knotted things up at 3-3 on a goal by Derek Slaght at 9:34 in the third period. The Merchants netted the game winner at 18:26 in the third period on a goal by Slaght.

The win by Norwich clinched the best of seven series at 4-2.

Kurtis Lavis had one goal and three assists to lead the Merchants.

Norwich excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Merchants did not challenge the opposing netminder, only getting 11 shots on net to force seven saves.

Norwich additionally got points from Drake Morrell, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Zack Morrison also scored for Norwich. More assists for Norwich came via Mitchell Berzins, Jesse Szabo, Brett Banks, and Patrick Maziarz, who each chipped in one.

The Bulldogs' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on eight Norwich power plays.

Burford also got points from Paul Armstrong, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Burford also got a goal from Jesse Brooks as well. In addition, Burford received assists from Connor Merritt, who had two and Anthony Van Looyen and Matt Dipaolo, who contributed one each.

Maziarz rejected 13 shots on goal for Norwich. The Merchants incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Michael Black recorded seven saves for Burford. The Bulldogs incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
