Norwich falls to Burford after surprising comeback

The Burford Bulldogs rallied from two goals down to secure a 6-5 win over the Norwich Merchants.

Burford let multiple leads slip away before eventually digging out of a two hole to pick up the win. The Bulldogs took a 1-0 advantage on a goal by Adam Harris at 4:33 in the first period. Burford found itself down 5-3 after Norwich's Jesse Szabo put the puck home at 1:57 in the second period. After knotting things up at 5-5 on a power play goal by Chris Grand at 5:57 in the third, the Bulldogs got the game-winner from Jesse Brooks at 10:36 in the third period.

The win by Burford broke a deadlock and gave the Bulldogs a 2-1 advantage in the best of seven series.

Brooks had two goals and one assist to lead Burford. Brooks scored the first of his two goals at 19:06 into the first period to make the score 3-3. Anthony Van Looyen provided the assist. Brooks' next tally made the score 6-5 Burford with 9:24 left in the third period. Kyle Walker assisted on the tally.

Burford additionally got points from Van Looyen, who also registered one goal and one assist and Grand, who also tallied one goal and one assist. In addition, Burford received assists from Ryan Cadwell and Mitch Randell, who each chipped in one and Owen Hinch and Connor Merritt, who contributed two each.

The Merchants' offense rang up 34 shots on the Bulldogs' net. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with three goals.

Norwich also got points from Riley Monture, who also had one goal and one assist. Norwich also got a goal from Mitchell Berzins as well. Other players who recorded assists for Norwich were Braeden Shand, who had two, Drake Morrell, who had four, and Kurtis Lavis and Alex Daley, who each chipped in one.

Riley Edwards made 29 saves for Burford on 34 shots. The Bulldogs incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Jesse Schoeman recorded 14 saves for Norwich. The Merchants incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors.
