The Mount Forest Patriots' Trevor Hughson scored 13:43 into overtime to beat the Kincardine Bulldogs, 3-2 (OT). The win gave Mount Forest a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series. Doug Costanzo was all over the ice for the Patriots, as he tallied two goals in the win. Costanzo scored at 4:21 into the second period to make the score 1-1 and again while on the power play 12:35 into the second to make the score 2-2. Mount Forest's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Kincardine power plays. The Patriots kept Kincardine's goalie busy throughout the game, and Mitch Campbell made 40 saves on 43 shots. In addition, Mount Forest received assists from Doug Ardis, Luke Richardson, Shawn Lantz, and Todd Greer, who each chipped in one. The Bulldogs forced Mount Forest goalie John Nixon to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots. Kincardine was helped by Shawn Moore, who had one goal. Moore scored 10:16 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Kincardine. Dalton Hnatko picked up the assist. Brady Richards also scored for Kincardine. More assists for Kincardine came via Mike Smailes and Patrick Wiejak, who contributed one each. John Nixon made 32 saves for the Patriots on 34 shots. Mount Forest incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. The Patriots ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Josh Perdue was ejected from the game. The Bulldogs incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. For Kincardine, Alex Labrosse was ejected from the game. |
