Essex beats Mooretown 5-2 as Scott gets hat trick

Tyler Scott netted a hat trick to lead the Essex 73s over the Mooretown Flags, 5-2.

Scott notched his first tally 3:08 into the first period. He then added goals at 14:24 into the second and at 19:26 into the third.

After the loss made the series score 3-0 in the best of seven series, Mooretown faces elimination next time out.

The Flags were unable to stop Essex from sending pucks towards the net, and the 73s eventually piled up 42 shots on goal.

Others who scored for Essex included Scott Bromley and Dallas Pereira, who scored one goal each. More assists for Essex came via Adam Gaiarin, Alex Derksen, and Phil Janikowski, who contributed one each and Matthew Rosati and Matthew Hebert, who each chipped in two.

Mooretown was helped by Frankie White, who finished with one goal. White scored on the power play 18:02 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Essex. The Flags earned a power play opportunity when Rosati was put in the box for tripping. Matt Brandon picked up the assist. Mooretown also got a goal from Ryan Lyle as well. In addition, Mooretown received assists from Sam McCormack, who had one.

Essex's Noah Hedrick stopped 18 shots out of the 20 that he faced. The 73s incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Steven Taylor recorded 37 saves for Mooretown. The Flags incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
