Burford beats Wellesley 5-1 as Brooks gets hat trick

Jesse Brooks netted a hat trick to lead the Burford Bulldogs over the Wellesley Applejacks, 5-1.

Brooks' first goal came 6:35 into the third period. He then added goals at 9:07 into the third and at 19:40 into the third.

Wellesley was stymied by Burford's netminder Michael Black, who stopped 28 shots during the victory. Black certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.9 entering the contest.

The Bulldogs stifled the Applejacks' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Burford's offense rang up 49 shots on Wellesley's net.

Burford additionally got points from Kyle Walker, who also racked up one goal and two assists. Burford also got a goal from Mark McGregor as well. Other players who recorded assists for Burford were Anthony Van Looyen, Alex Hall, Matt Kliewer, Chris Grand, and Adam Harris, who each chipped in one.

The Applejacks racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with nine minors and one major for 33 minutes in penalty time. Wellesley surpassed its season average of 26.0 penalty minutes per game.

The Applejacks were led by Matt Schieck, who scored the team's only goal. Schieck scored 15:51 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Alex Uttley assisted on the tally.

The Bulldogs totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major and went 1-for-8 on the power play. For Burford, Van Looyen and Blaise Burtnick were ejected from the contest. Tim Bester made 44 saves for Wellesley on 48 shots. The Applejacks registered zero goals on four power play opportunities. Wellesley ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Justin Plant was ejected from the game.
