Appleby College uses early goal to top Nichols School, 3-1

The Appleby College Blue Dogs took the lead against the Nichols School Vikings in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 3-1 victory.

A goal 10:09 into the first period by Ryan McGregor proved to be the game winner, and powered Appleby College to the victory. Bailey Newton provided the assist.

The Blue Dogs were led by goalie Avery Gobbo, who finished with 30 saves while allowing one goal. Gobbo certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 4.26 entering the contest.

Appleby College was led by Callum Jones, who registered one goal. Jones scored 1:20 into the third period to make the score 2-0 Appleby College. Adam Scholz assisted on the tally.

The Blue Dogs put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Nichols School to score on any of its five power plays. Appleby College could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 14 minutes in penalties during the game.

Morgan MacDonald also scored for Appleby College. Other players who recorded assists for Appleby College were Matt Thompson and Tommy Hoogaars, who contributed one each.

The Vikings excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. Nichols School was held below its usual level of production. The Vikings put an average of 3.4 pucks into the net per game. The Blue Dogs were unable to stop Nichols School from sending pucks towards the net, and the Vikings eventually piled up 31 shots on goal.

Nichols School was led by Harrison Oates, who scored the team's only goal. Oates scored 9:59 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Appleby College. Sean Martin picked up the assist.

Jerry Baerwitz made 21 saves for the Vikings on 23 shots. Nichols School incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
