Huge game by Benson boosts Maine over East Coast, 8-4

Maine's Alex Benson had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing three assists in his team's 8-4 win over East Coast.

Benson scored at 2:16 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Maine and again while 15:06 into the second to make the score 4-4.

Maine forced East Coast's goaltenders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, ripping 39 shots and forcing 31 saves. Travis Spangle made 23 stops and Aidan Critchlow made eight. Maine bested its season scoring average. Maine has scored at the pace of 3.4 goals per game during the current campaign. Maine's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals. Maine could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game.

Maine also got points from Taylor Zion, who also tallied one goal and four assists and Matt Henderson, who also registered one goal and one assist. Maine also had goals scored by Noel Fischer, who had two and Ben Henderson and Chris King, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Maine were Drew Lupardo, Joe Giannini, Matt Jerome, and Mick Mansir, who each chipped in one.

East Coast found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. East Coast averages 1.3 goal per game. East Coast found itself short handed often, totaling 18 penalty minutes and allowing seven power plays. Team could not crack Maine's penalty kill and was held to two power play goals while having 11 opportunities to play with the man advantage. East Coast got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

East Coast was helped by Yannick Price-Prevot, who had two goals. Price-Prevot scored the first of his two goals at 2:35 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Samu Landen picked up the assist. Price-Prevot's next tally made the score 2-2 with 52 seconds left in the first period. East Coast had taken the advantage when Maine's Jake Dickson got sent off for tripping. Landen assisted on the tally. Maxwell Campbell also scored for East Coast. In addition, East Coast received assists from Shane Morgan, who had one.

Jon Fields recorded 24 saves for Maine.
