Whitefish Wolverines survives Wichita Jr. Thunder comeback, wins 4-3Las Vegas South Fri, Dec 19, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
Whitefish Wolverines came close to giving away a three-goal lead to Wichita Jr. Thunder, but did just enough to escape with a 4-3 victory. Whitefish Wolverines led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when Whitefish Wolverines' Bryan Polmear scored on the power play at 9:47 in the second period to put Whitefish Wolverines up 3-0. Ian Wiens had two goals to lead Whitefish Wolverines to victory. Wiens' tallies came on the power play at 1:54 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Whitefish Wolverines and on the power play 4:58 into the first to make the score 2-0 Whitefish Wolverines. Whitefish Wolverines' penalty kill excelled, as Whitefish Wolverines gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays. Whitefish Wolverines stifled Wichita Jr. Thunder's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Brett Fernandez also scored for Whitefish Wolverines. More assists for Whitefish Wolverines came via Richard Mulligan, who had three and Chris Cutshall, Tyler Latimer, Danny Roe, and Evan Carter, who each chipped in one. Wichita Jr. Thunder's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Wichita Jr. Thunder finished with 50 penalty minutes. Wichita Jr. Thunder was helped by Peter Cicmanec, who had one goal. Cicmanec scored 17:43 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Whitefish Wolverines. Tyler Larson provided the assist. Wichita Jr. Thunder also had goals scored by Jet Bell and Kris Tountas, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Wichita Jr. Thunder were Matej Porzer, Patrik Janac, and Tom Lindstrom, who contributed one each. Brendan Duff recorded 24 saves for Whitefish Wolverines. Whitefish Wolverines incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Jake Larson made 26 saves for Wichita Jr. Thunder on 30 shots.
