Huge game by Oktavec boosts Cheyenne Stampede over San Diego, 6-1

Branko Oktavec was all over the ice for Cheyenne Stampede, as he tallied one goal and three assists in Cheyenne Stampede's 6-1 win over San Diego.

Oktavec beat Brody Cavataio with a shot 23:29 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Cheyenne Stampede. Heath Lantz picked up the assist. Oktavec dished an assist on Lantz's goal that made the score 1-0 Cheyenne Stampede at 6:32 into the first period. He then added assists on Craig Thurston's goal at 20:23 into the first and on Thurston's goal at 21:50 into the second.

San Diego's power play was ineffective against Cheyenne Stampede's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Cheyenne Stampede additionally got points from Thurston, who also registered two goals and one assist and Lantz, who also finished with one goal and two assists. Cheyenne Stampede also had goals scored by Jack Speer and Drake DeBerry, who scored one goal each. In addition, Cheyenne Stampede received assists from Max Legere, Garrett Hughes, Garrett Pitter, Niklavs Balgalvis, and Cody Key, who contributed one each.

San Diego managed to stay out of the box better than usual, racking up one minor for two minutes in penalty time. San Diego ended up below its season average of 19.0 penalty minutes per game. San Diego could not produce up to its normal offensive output. San Diego averages 3.6 goals per game.

San Diego was led by Ilya Sakhibgareev, who scored the team's only goal. Sakhibgareev scored on the power play 17:38 into the first period to make the score 1-1. San Diego had gained a power play chance when Nolan Kinney was whistled for roughing. Ted Lauer assisted on the tally.

Cheyenne Stampede's Corey Foster stopped 20 shots out of the 21 that he faced. Cheyenne Stampede incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Brody Cavataio made 19 saves for San Diego on 25 shots.
