Sydney Sabres holds on for 2-1 win against Perth Pelicans

Sydney Sabres survived a determined comeback attempt by Perth Pelicans on the way to a 2-1 win.

A goal by Chris Shephard put Sydney Sabres up 2-0 in the second period, but Perth Pelicans pulled to within one on Ryan Smith's tally 8:26 into the third period.

Perth Pelicans' power play was ineffective against Sydney Sabres' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Sydney Sabres' offense was clicking better than usual and put 22 shots on goal during the game, better than the 2.1 shots per game it averages.

Sydney Sabres also got a goal from Daniel Pataky as well. More assists for Sydney Sabres came via Lachlan Allport and Samuel Lammert, who contributed one each.

Perth Pelicans did not challenge the opposing goaltender, launching only 11 shots on net to force 10 saves. Still, the total topped Perth Pelicans' average of 2.3 per game this year.

In addition, Perth Pelicans received assists from Anthony Barnes, who had one.

Tyrone Mendoza-Kehlet rejected 10 shots on goal for Sydney Sabres. Sydney Sabres incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Stephen McCann recorded 20 saves for Perth Pelicans. Perth Pelicans incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
