Perth Sharks vanquishes Sydney Sabres in shootout, 2-1 (3-2 SO)

Tomek Sak scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and Perth Sharks picked up the extra point in a 2-1 (3-2 SO) win over Sydney Sabres.

The two teams needed 10 turns to complete the shootout. Sydney Sabres got shootout goals from Joshua Hansen and Bryan Costa. Perth Sharks also got shootout goals from Sak and Sak.

Perth Sharks came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Perth Sharks trailed 1-0 after a power play goal by Sydney Sabres' Lachlan Allport at 12:15 in the first period. Perth Sharks knotted things up at 1-1 on a goal by Benedik Stolze at 13:11 in the first period.

Perth Sharks was led by goalie Mark McCann, who finished with 25 saves while allowing one goal. McCann managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 1.47 prior to the game.

By firing 24 shots on goal, Perth Sharks exceeded the 4.0 shots it averages per game this year.

More assists for Perth Sharks came via Sak and James Woodman, who contributed one each.

Sydney Sabres managed to stay out of the box better than usual, registering one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Sydney Sabres finished below its season average of 15.0 penalty minutes per game. The 26 shots that Sydney Sabres put on net surpassed Sydney Sabres' average of 1.7 shot per game this season.

In addition, Sydney Sabres received assists from Hansen and Ellese Carini, who each chipped in one.
