Penn State University survives Northeastern University comeback, wins 3-2Matthews Arena Sun, Nov 23, 2014 The Northeastern University Huskies tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Penn State University Nitty Lions held on for a 3-2 victory. Penn State University made the score 3-1 on a goal by Tara Soukup at 12:54 in the third period, and Northeastern University got as close as 3-2 when Michelle Macchione scored 14:14 into the third period. The Nitty Lions were paced by Soukup, who racked up one goal. Penn State University excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The Nitty Lions forced the Huskies goalie Anne Marie Dion to work between the pipes, taking 42 shots. The defensemen of Penn State University were also effective in Northeastern University's zone, and came away with two goals. Others who scored for Penn State University included Cara Mendelson and Devon Fisk, who scored one goal each. More assists for Penn State University came via Claire Gauthier, who had two and Jacqueline Saideh, Katherine Murphy, and Riley OConnor, who each chipped in one. The Huskies put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Nitty Lions to score on any of their three power plays. Northeastern University's offense rang up 31 shots on Penn State University's net. Northeastern University additionally got points from Suzanne Friedman, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Northeastern University were Ally Healy and Kelsey Hickey, who contributed one each. Mary Kate Tonetti recorded 29 saves for the Nitty Lions.
