Michigan State University falls to Michigan University of after surprising comeback

The Michigan University of Wolverines climbed out of a two-goal hole to beat the Michigan State University Spartans, 4-3.

Michigan University of let multiple leads slip away before eventually digging out of a two hole to pick up the win. The Wolverines took a 1-0 advantage on a goal by Jenna Trubiano at 19 seconds in the first period. Michigan University of found itself down 3-1 after Michigan State University's Lyndsay Oden put the puck home at 7:14 in the third period. After knotting things up at 3-3 on a power play goal by Mercedes Reyes at 18:54 in the third, the Wolverines got the game-winner from Jessica Buckley at 19:25 in the third period.

Buckley was all over the ice for Michigan University of, as he tallied two goals in the win.

The Wolverines put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Spartans to score on any of their five power plays. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

More assists for Michigan University of came via Leah Krieger, who had one and Kalli Bates and Monica Korzon, who contributed two each.

Michigan State University's offense was handcuffed by Michigan University of's defensive play, and the Spartans managed only 12 shots on goal during the game. Michigan State University's defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. The Spartans average 1.8 goal allowed per game. Michigan State University could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 16 minutes in penalties during the game.

Others who scored for Michigan State University included Shelby Myers and Madison VanAntwerp, who each put in one. In addition, Michigan State University received assists from Natalie Prisciandaro, Kelsey Cross, Lauren Grigg, and Brittany Nuzzolo, who each chipped in one.

Kelsey Duggan recorded nine saves for the Wolverines. Michigan University of incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Maria Barlow made 23 saves for the Spartans on 27 shots.
