New Hampshire uses shootout to best Cape Cod, 2-1 (3-2 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as New Hampshire defeated Cape Cod in a shootout 2-1 (3-2 SO).

The shootout featured 10 attempts between both teams. Cape Cod got shootout goals from Frank Oakley and Anthony Giannelli. New Hampshire's other shootout goals were scored by Brett Bittner and Nick Pino.

New Hampshire overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. New Hampshire was down 1-0 after a goal by Cape Cod's Christian Holmes at 2:05 in the second period. New Hampshire tied things up at 1-1 on a power play goal by Tyler Burton at 7:38 in the second period.

New Hampshire was led by goalie Adam Higdon, who finished with 29 saves while allowing one goal. Higdon managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 1.72 prior to the game.

New Hampshire put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Cape Cod to score on any of its three power plays. New Hampshire did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. New Hampshire puts an average of 4.3 pucks into the net per game. New Hampshire forced Cape Cod goalie Kevin Belanger to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots.

More assists for New Hampshire came via Alex Peddle, who had one.

New Hampshire incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. New Hampshire ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Mike Heffernan was ejected from the game. Kevin Belanger made 39 saves for Cape Cod on 40 shots. Cape Cod incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. For Cape Cod, Colton Hart was ejected from the game.
