Detroit Fighting Irish vanquishes Decatur Blaze in shootout, 5-4 (4-3 SO)Brownstown Sports Center Wed, Feb 04, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Detroit Fighting Irish defeated Decatur Blaze in a shootout 5-4 (4-3 SO). The shootout featured 10 attempts between both teams. Decatur Blaze's shootout goals were scored by Richard Mischak, Luka Znidarsic, and Dylan Farmer. In addition to the clincher, Detroit Fighting Irish got shootout goals from Jacob Hayes, Nolan Jakrzewski, and Ken Winter.Detroit Fighting Irish overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Detroit Fighting Irish trailed 3-1 after a goal by Decatur Blaze's Curtis Schlereth at 1:20 in the third period. Detroit Fighting Irish tied things up at 4-4 on a goal by Winter at 19:21 in the third period. Detroit Fighting Irish forced Decatur Blaze goalie Brandon Macak to work between the pipes, taking 50 shots. Steven Sewell also scored for Detroit Fighting Irish. Other players who recorded assists for Detroit Fighting Irish were Aaron Robinson, Shawn Eastman, Tristan Cruz, Richard Pinkowski, Robert Danyo, Cody Dombrowski, and Christian Ramage, who each chipped in one. Decatur Blaze excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Detroit Fighting Irish was unable to stop Decatur Blaze from sending pucks towards the net, and Decatur Blaze eventually piled up 39 shots on goal. Decatur Blaze was led by Farmer, who finished with one goal and two assists. Farmer scored 15:44 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Decatur Blaze. Znidarsic assisted on the tally. Decatur Blaze additionally got points from Znidarsic, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Decatur Blaze also got a goal from Shane Johnson as well. In addition, Decatur Blaze received assists from Micah Young, who had one. George Hill recorded 35 saves for Detroit Fighting Irish. Detroit Fighting Irish ended with nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major. Brandon Macak made 45 saves for Decatur Blaze on 49 shots. Decatur Blaze totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 0-for-1 on the power play.
