Rotondo's big game bests Detroit Fighting Irish in 6-3 Michigan Ice Dogs win

Michigan Ice Dogs' Marc Rotondo had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing two assists in his team's 6-3 win over Detroit Fighting Irish.

Rotondo scored at 8:51 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Michigan Ice Dogs and again while 15:13 into the third to make the score 6-3 Michigan Ice Dogs.

Michigan Ice Dogs forced Detroit Fighting Irish's goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, launching 39 shots and forcing 33 saves. George Hill made 29 stops and Austin Stefan made four. Michigan Ice Dogs excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Michigan Ice Dogs surpassed its usual scoring output this season. Michigan Ice Dogs averages 2.8 goals per game.

Michigan Ice Dogs also had goals scored by Joseph Russo and Spencer Godin, who scored two goals each. More assists for Michigan Ice Dogs came via Kyle Cuthrell, who had four and Hunter Nielson and Hunter Oatman, who each chipped in one.

Detroit Fighting Irish's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Michigan Ice Dogs power plays. Detroit Fighting Irish kept Michigan Ice Dogs' goalie busy throughout the game, and Jacob Mulka made 47 saves on 50 shots.

Detroit Fighting Irish was helped by Christian Ramage, who grabbed one goal. Ramage scored 19:32 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Detroit Fighting Irish. Austin McKibbin assisted on the tally. Detroit Fighting Irish additionally got points from Tristan Cruz, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Ken Winter also scored for Detroit Fighting Irish. In addition, Detroit Fighting Irish received assists from Aaron Robinson, Michael Perry, Eric Long, and Steven Sewell, who contributed one each.

Michigan Ice Dogs ended with 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. Detroit Fighting Irish ended with 38 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors. Team's Winter and Chase Tackett were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
