Traverse City Hounds survives Michigan Ice Dogs comeback, wins 6-5

Michigan Ice Dogs tried to dig itself out of a three-goal hole, but Traverse City Hounds held on for a 6-5 victory.

Traverse City Hounds made the score 6-3 on a goal by Grant McCormack at 10:15 in the third period, and Michigan Ice Dogs got as close as 6-5 when Spencer Godin scored 19:59 into the third period.

Patrick Rogowski had two goals to lead Traverse City Hounds to victory. Rogowski's tallies came at 19:31 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Traverse City Hounds and 9:05 into the third to make the score 5-3 Traverse City Hounds.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 9:26 into the second period. Five fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts.

Traverse City Hounds was often in penalty trouble, totaling eight minors and five majors for 81 minutes in penalty time. Traverse City Hounds surpassed its season average of 20.0 penalty minutes per game. Traverse City Hounds forced Michigan Ice Dogs goalie Jacob Mulka to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots. More assists for Traverse City Hounds came via Stan Swiderek, Zachary Pipers, Jan Voves, Cam Givens, and Andrew Dzierwa, who each chipped in one and Austin Flores and Cam Fisher, who contributed two each.

Traverse City Hounds was unable to stop Michigan Ice Dogs from sending pucks towards the net, and Michigan Ice Dogs eventually piled up 34 shots on goal. Michigan Ice Dogs surpassed its usual scoring output this season. Michigan Ice Dogs averages 2.7 goals per game.

Michigan Ice Dogs also had goals scored by Hunter Oatman and Tyler Tamer, who each put in one. In addition, Michigan Ice Dogs received assists from Marc Rotondo, who had two and Brent Young and Adam Winger, who each chipped in one.

Justin Abdelhak made 29 saves for Traverse City Hounds on 34 shots. Traverse City Hounds registered zero goals on one power play opportunities. For Traverse City Hounds, Dylan Wilkinson was ejected from the game. Michigan Ice Dogs' Mulka stopped 29 shots out of the 35 that he faced. Michigan Ice Dogs ended with 34 minutes in penalty time with two minors and two majors. Michigan Ice Dogs ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Zachary Elkins was ejected from the game.
