Detroit Fighting Irish survives Motor City Monarchs comeback, wins 5-4

Detroit Fighting Irish survived a determined comeback attempt by Motor City Monarchs on the way to a 5-4 win.

Detroit Fighting Irish made the score 4-0 on a goal by Chase Tackett at 12:58 in the second period, and Motor City Monarchs got as close as 5-4 when Justin Session scored 16:03 into the third period.

Detroit Fighting Irish was often in penalty trouble, totaling six minors and one major for 37 minutes in penalty time. Detroit Fighting Irish surpassed its season average of 24.0 penalty minutes per game. Detroit Fighting Irish struggled on the penalty kill, allowing Motor City Monarchs to score three power play goals on five chances.

Detroit Fighting Irish was led by Nolan Jakrzewski, who finished with one goal and one assist. Jakrzewski scored short handed 13:59 into the third period to make the score 5-2 Detroit Fighting Irish. Detroit Fighting Irish played down a man on Michael Perry's slashing. Richard Pinkowski picked up the assist. Motor City Monarchs was helped by Anthony Wojciechowski, who tallied two goals. Wojciechowski scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 13:46 into the second period to make the score 4-1 Detroit Fighting Irish. Motor City Monarchs had gained a power play chance when Hays was whistled for cross checking. Trevor Hillman assisted on the tally. Wojciechowski's next tally on the power play made the score 5-3 Detroit Fighting Irish with 4:45 left in the third period. Bryce Peplinski picked up the assist. Motor City Monarchs additionally got points from Peplinski, who also registered one goal and one assist. More assists for Motor City Monarchs came via Zach Kopinski and Derrick Treppa, who each chipped in one and Trevor Pode and Jarrad Vroman, who contributed two each.

Detroit Fighting Irish registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. Detroit Fighting Irish ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Tackett was ejected from the game. Stephan Demmers made 13 saves before being replaced by Collin Fritch, who took the loss and made seven saves. Motor City Monarchs ended with 21 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major. For Motor City Monarchs, Session was ejected from the game.
