Decatur Blaze survives MC Monarchs comeback, wins 4-3

MC Monarchs tried its best to erase a two-goal deficit, but Decatur Blaze would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-3.

A goal by Brandon Adler put Decatur Blaze up 4-2 in the third period, but MC Monarchs pulled to within one on Anthony Wojciechowski's tally 8:31 into the third period.

Decatur Blaze got the win behind a great game by Adler, who had two goals and one assist. Adler scored the first of his two goals at 5:55 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Decatur Blaze. Dylan Farmer picked up the assist. Adler's next tally made the score 4-2 Decatur Blaze with 13:05 left in the third period. Shane Johnson assisted on the tally.

Decatur Blaze forced MC Monarchs goalie Collin Fritch to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots.

Decatur Blaze additionally got points from Micah Young, who also racked up one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Decatur Blaze also got a goal from Duncan Irvine as well. More assists for Decatur Blaze came via Traevon Walker, who had one.

MC Monarchs stifled Decatur Blaze's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. MC Monarchs could not produce up to its normal offensive output. MC Monarchs puts an average of 5.2 pucks into the net per game. Decatur Blaze was unable to stop MC Monarchs from sending pucks towards the net, and MC Monarchs eventually piled up 53 shots on goal.

MC Monarchs was helped by Tory Shand, who registered one goal. Shand scored 9:04 into the second period to make the score 2-0 MC Monarchs. Trevor Pode provided the assist. MC Monarchs also got points from Pode, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for MC Monarchs were Zach Kopinski, Alec Domin, and Derrick Treppa, who each chipped in one.

Matthew Hatcher made 50 saves for Decatur Blaze on 53 shots. Decatur Blaze incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Fritch rejected 31 shots on goal for MC Monarchs. MC Monarchs incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
