MC Monarchs holds on for 6-4 win against Michigan Ice Dogs

Michigan Ice Dogs tried to dig itself out of a five-goal hole, but MC Monarchs held on for a 6-4 victory.

MC Monarchs made the score 6-1 on a goal by Anthony Wojciechowski at 15:12 in the second period, and Michigan Ice Dogs got as close as 6-4 when Joseph Russo scored 11:21 into the third period.

MC Monarchs forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 10 minors and one major for 25 minutes in penalty time. MC Monarchs had been averaging 20.0 minutes in penalties per game. MC Monarchs forced Michigan Ice Dogs' netminders to work without much rest, firing 47 shots and forcing 41 saves. Jacob Mulka made 26 stops and Christopher Boyd made 15.

MC Monarchs also got points from Adam Jonak, who also had one goal and one assist. MC Monarchs also had goals scored by Bryce Peplinski and Joseph Gibbs, who scored one goal each. More assists for MC Monarchs came via Alec Domin, who had one and Jarrad Vroman, who had two.

Michigan Ice Dogs racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 10 minors and one major for 35 minutes in penalty time. Michigan Ice Dogs surpassed its season average of 22.0 penalty minutes per game.

Michigan Ice Dogs also got a goal from Hunter Oatman as well. In addition, Michigan Ice Dogs received assists from Adam Winger, Marc Rotondo, and Steven Dunn, who contributed one each.

Marquise Almeida made 15 saves for MC Monarchs on 19 shots. MC Monarchs registered two goals on five power play opportunities. Michigan Ice Dogs registered two goals on seven power play opportunities.
