Huge game by Jonak boosts MC Monarchs over Detroit Fighting Irish, 6-3

Adam Jonak was all over the ice for MC Monarchs, as he tallied two goals and one assist in MC Monarchs' 6-3 win over Detroit Fighting Irish.

Jonak scored on the power play at 2:28 into the first period to make the score 1-1 and again while 13:23 into the first to make the score 3-1 MC Monarchs.

MC Monarchs' penalty kill excelled, as MC Monarchs gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

MC Monarchs' penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 20.0 minutes per game MC Monarchs had been spending in the box. MC Monarchs forced Detroit Fighting Irish's netminders to work between the pipes, totaling 34 shots and forcing 28 saves. Kory Dombrowski made 24 stops and George Hill made four. MC Monarchs stifled Detroit Fighting Irish's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

MC Monarchs also got points from Bryce Peplinski, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for MC Monarchs included Colton James, Tory Shand, and Joseph Gibbs, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for MC Monarchs were Anthony Wojciechowski, who had three and Matthew Snyder and Alec Domin, who each chipped in one.

Detroit Fighting Irish racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with five minors and two majors for 30 minutes in penalty time. Detroit Fighting Irish had been averaging 24.0 minutes in penalties per game.

Detroit Fighting Irish was led by Chuck Hicks, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Hicks scored 15:44 into the first period to make the score 3-2 MC Monarchs. Robert Danyo assisted on the tally. Detroit Fighting Irish also had goals scored by Ken Winter and Steven Sewell, who each put in one. In addition, Detroit Fighting Irish received assists from James Smith, who had one.

MC Monarchs' Tyler Skulley stopped 24 shots out of the 27 that he faced. MC Monarchs registered two goals on five power play opportunities.
