Decatur Blaze outlasts Alpena Flyers, 4-3Decatur Civic Center Fri, Jan 02, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
Decatur Blaze gutted out a close 4-3 win against Alpena Flyers. No lead was more than one goal during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Ryan Redpath at 16:22 of the second period. Redpath had a great game for Decatur Blaze, netting two goals. Decatur Blaze pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 14 penalty minutes. Decatur Blaze forced Alpena Flyers goalie Hunter Myers to work between the pipes, taking 48 shots. Decatur Blaze also got points from Curtis Schlereth, who also registered one goal and one assist and Brock Oyler, who also racked up one goal and one assist. More assists for Decatur Blaze came via Luka Znidarsic, who had two and Garret Maged, Dylan Farmer, Richard Mischak, and Micah Young, who each chipped in one. Alpena Flyers stifled Decatur Blaze's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Alpena Flyers kept Decatur Blaze's goalie busy throughout the game, and Matthew Hatcher made 30 saves on 33 shots. Alpena Flyers was helped by Garret Bailey, who had one goal and one assist. Bailey scored 6:19 into the second period to make the score 2-2. James Stacey assisted on the tally. Alpena Flyers additionally got points from Jared Kwiatkowski, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Stacey, who also registered one goal and one assist. Decatur Blaze registered zero goals on four power play opportunities. Myers recorded 44 saves for Alpena Flyers. Alpena Flyers incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
