Shand leads MC Monarchs over Michigan Ice Dogs, 6-1

MC Monarchs' Tory Shand had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing one assist in his team's 6-1 win over Michigan Ice Dogs.

Shand scored at 1:29 into the first period to make the score 1-0 MC Monarchs and again while 2:02 into the first to make the score 2-0 MC Monarchs.

MC Monarchs was led by goalie Collin Fritch, who finished with 27 saves while allowing one goal. Despite the solid performance, Fritch will actually see his goals against average rise, as it stood at 1.0 entering the contest.

MC Monarchs put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Michigan Ice Dogs to score on any of its eight power plays. MC Monarchs forced Michigan Ice Dogs goalie Christopher Boyd to work between the pipes, taking 46 shots.

MC Monarchs also got points from Trevor Pode, who also registered one goal and one assist and Adam Jonak, who also racked up one goal and two assists. MC Monarchs also had goals scored by Anthony Wojciechowski and Alex Anderson, who each put in one. More assists for MC Monarchs came via Jarrad Vroman, who had three and Bryce Peplinski and Alec Domin, who contributed one each.

Michigan Ice Dogs was led by Brent Young, who scored the team's only goal. Young scored 4:39 into the second period to make the score 3-1 MC Monarchs. Joseph Russo assisted on the tally.

MC Monarchs incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. Michigan Ice Dogs' Boyd stopped 40 shots out of the 46 that he faced. Michigan Ice Dogs incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
