Alpena Flyers uses shootout to best Soo Firehawks, 3-2 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Alpena Flyers defeated Soo Firehawks in a shootout 3-2 (2-1 SO).

The two teams needed nine turns to complete the shootout. Soo Firehawks' shootout goal was scored by Patrick Sweeney. Alpena Flyers' other shootout goal was scored by Brandon Bihn.

Alpena Flyers overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Alpena Flyers fell behind 2-1 after a goal by Soo Firehawks' James Goudreau at 10:54 in the second period. Alpena Flyers tied things up at 2-2 on a goal by Shane Dawson at 8:40 in the third period.

Alpena Flyers pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 28 penalty minutes.

Alpena Flyers' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Soo Firehawks power plays.

James Stacey also scored for Alpena Flyers. Other players who recorded assists for Alpena Flyers were Brett Farley, Garret Bailey, and Alexander Guzman, who contributed one each.

Soo Firehawks was often in penalty trouble, totaling 10 minors and two majors for 30 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 22.0 minutes per game Soo Firehawks had been spending in the box.

Soo Firehawks also got a goal from Anthony Laaksonen as well. In addition, Soo Firehawks received assists from Matthew MacLaren, Mario Taranto, Daniel Bachynsky, and Cody Therrian, who each chipped in one.

Hunter Myers made 25 saves for Alpena Flyers on 27 shots. Alpena Flyers registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Michael Pelland rejected 22 shots on goal for Soo Firehawks.
