Detroit Fighting Irish relied on the scoring touch of Jacob Hernandez, who netted two goals, to beat Soo Firehawks, 3-1. Hernandez found the back of the net on the power play 15:13 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Detroit Fighting Irish and again while on the power play 18:02 into the third to make the score 3-1 Detroit Fighting Irish.Soo Firehawks was unable to stop Detroit Fighting Irish from sending pucks towards the net, and Detroit Fighting Irish eventually piled up 36 shots on goal. Detroit Fighting Irish also got a goal from Chuck Hicks as well. Other players who recorded assists for Detroit Fighting Irish were Eric Long, who had two and Ken Winter, Chase Tackett, and James Smith, who each chipped in one. Soo Firehawks was led by Cody Anderson, who scored the team's only goal. Anderson scored on the power play 16:00 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Soo Firehawks had taken the advantage when Detroit Fighting Irish's Zachary Cruz got sent off for tripping. Quinton Myotte picked up the assist. Austin Stefan made 16 saves for Detroit Fighting Irish on 17 shots. Detroit Fighting Irish incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Nicolas Berlingieri rejected 33 shots on goal for Soo Firehawks. Soo Firehawks incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
