Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Alpena Flyers defeated Michigan Ice Dogs in a shootout 3-2 (3-1 SO). The shootout lasted for eight attempts between the teams. Michigan Ice Dogs got a shootout goal from Joseph Russo. Alpena Flyers' other shootout goals were scored by Garret Bailey and Brett Farley.Alpena Flyers overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Alpena Flyers fell behind 2-1 after a goal by Michigan Ice Dogs' Marc Rotondo at 8:31 in the second period. Alpena Flyers tied things up at 2-2 on a goal by Farley at 17:40 in the third period. Alpena Flyers kept Michigan Ice Dogs' goalie busy throughout the game, and Christopher Boyd made 42 saves on 45 shots. Jared Kwiatkowski also scored for Alpena Flyers. More assists for Alpena Flyers came via Brandon Bihn, who had one and Bailey, who had two. Michigan Ice Dogs forced Alpena Flyers goalie Brett LeTourneau to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots.
