MC Monarchs outlasts Detroit Fighting Irish, 5-3

The game between MC Monarchs and Detroit Fighting Irish was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end MC Monarchs emerged with a 5-3 win.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Anthony Wojciechowski at 5:07 of the third period.

Wojciechowski had two goals to lead MC Monarchs to victory.

MC Monarchs racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with seven minors and two majors for 34 minutes in penalty time. MC Monarchs had been averaging 16.0 minutes in penalties per game. MC Monarchs put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Detroit Fighting Irish to score on any of its four power plays. MC Monarchs forced Detroit Fighting Irish goalie Kory Dombrowski to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots.

MC Monarchs also got points from Adam Jonak, who also had two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. MC Monarchs also got a goal from Jarrad Vroman as well. In addition, MC Monarchs received assists from Joseph Gibbs, who had one and Trevor Pode and Mitchell Krust, who each chipped in two.

Detroit Fighting Irish was often in penalty trouble, totaling four minors and four majors for 48 minutes in penalty time. Detroit Fighting Irish surpassed its season average of 25.0 penalty minutes per game. Detroit Fighting Irish could not produce up to its normal offensive output. Detroit Fighting Irish averages 5.1 goals per game. MC Monarchs was unable to stop Detroit Fighting Irish from sending pucks towards the net, and Detroit Fighting Irish eventually piled up 49 shots on goal.

Marquise Almeida made 46 saves for MC Monarchs on 49 shots. MC Monarchs registered two goals on five power play opportunities. MC Monarchs ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Wojciechowski was ejected from the game. Dombrowski rejected 33 shots on goal for Detroit Fighting Irish. For Detroit Fighting Irish, Tristan Cruz was ejected from the game.
