MC Monarchs vanquishes Traverse City Hounds in shootout, 6-5 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as MC Monarchs defeated Traverse City Hounds in a shootout 6-5 (2-1 SO).

The two teams needed 12 turns to complete the shootout. Traverse City Hounds' shootout goal was scored by Stan Swiderek. MC Monarchs' other shootout goal was scored by Anthony Wojciechowski.

MC Monarchs came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. MC Monarchs was down 2-0 after a goal by Traverse City Hounds' Jan Voves at 10:13 in the first period. MC Monarchs knotted things up at 5-5 on a power play goal by Wojciechowski at 14:34 in the third period.

MC Monarchs managed to stay out of the box better than usual, totaling one minor for two minutes in penalty time. MC Monarchs ended up below its season average of 15.0 penalty minutes per game. Traverse City Hounds was unable to stop MC Monarchs from sending pucks towards the net, and MC Monarchs eventually piled up 34 shots on goal. MC Monarchs capitalized on Traverse City Hounds' penalties, netting three goals while skating with a man advantage.

MC Monarchs was led by Trevor Pode, who tallied three goals and one assist. MC Monarchs additionally got points from Adam Jonak, who also registered one goal and one assist. In addition, MC Monarchs received assists from Bryce Peplinski and Alec Domin, who contributed one each and Joseph Gibbs and Jarrad Vroman, who each chipped in two.

Traverse City Hounds forced MC Monarchs goalie Tyler Skulley to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots. Traverse City Hounds' defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. Traverse City Hounds is averaging 1.8 goal against for the season.

Traverse City Hounds was helped by Cam Givens, who had one goal and three assists. Givens scored 6:55 into the second period to make the score 3-3. Austin Flores picked up the assist. Traverse City Hounds also got points from Flores, who also grabbed one goal and three assists and Patrick Rogowski, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Swiderek also scored for Traverse City Hounds. Other players who recorded assists for Traverse City Hounds were Kevin Hansen, who had one.

Skulley rejected 32 shots on goal for MC Monarchs. David Krejcik recorded 28 saves for Traverse City Hounds. Traverse City Hounds incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
