Young, Gehrken dominate Soo Firehawks, lead Decatur Blaze to 6-3 win

Behind two goals from Micah Young and one goal and one assist from Ty Gehrken, Decatur Blaze downed Soo Firehawks 6-3.

Young scored the first of his two goals at 5:43 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Decatur Blaze. Brandon Adler provided the assist. Young's next tally made the score 5-3 Decatur Blaze with 5:38 left in the third period. Decatur Blaze had taken the advantage when Soo Firehawks' Quinton Myotte got sent off for high sticking. Gehrken assisted on the tally. Gehrken scored 4:47 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Decatur Blaze. Richard Mischak picked up the assist.

Decatur Blaze kept Soo Firehawks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Nicolas Berlingieri made 38 saves on 44 shots.

Decatur Blaze additionally got points from Luka Znidarsic, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Gehrken, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Joey Fowler, who also registered one goal and one assist. Curtis Schlereth also scored for Decatur Blaze. Other players who recorded assists for Decatur Blaze were John Urmetz, who had one and Garret Maged, who had two.

Soo Firehawks racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with nine minors and one major for 33 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 24.0 minutes per game Soo Firehawks had been spending in the box. Soo Firehawks got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Soo Firehawks was led by Anthony Laaksonen, who had two goals. Laaksonen scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 15:49 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Soo Firehawks had gotten the advantage when Decatur Blaze's Christian Garcia was sent off for interference. Matthew Majic assisted on the tally. Laaksonen's next tally on the power play made the score 3-3 with 7:45 left in the second period. James Goudreau picked up the assist. Soo Firehawks also got a goal from Dyllon Anderson as well. More assists for Soo Firehawks came via Daniel Bachynsky and Justus Mancuso, who each chipped in one.

Matthew Hatcher recorded 18 saves for Decatur Blaze. Decatur Blaze totaled 21 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 2-for-8 on the power play. Soo Firehawks registered one goal on two power play opportunities.
