Soo Firehawks erases deficit to stun Detroit Fighting Irish, 5-4

Undaunted by a two-goal deficit, Soo Firehawks battled back to claim a 5-4 victory over Detroit Fighting Irish.

Soo Firehawks' penalty kill was ineffective, and let in three goals to Detroit Fighting Irish's power play unit.

Soo Firehawks was led by Cody Therrian, who registered two goals. Therrian scored the first of his two goals at 9:51 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Patrick Sweeney assisted on the tally. Therrian's next tally made the score 3-3 with 15:42 left in the second period. Soo Firehawks had gained a power play chance when Austin McKibbin was whistled for tripping. Noah Anderson provided the assist. Soo Firehawks also got points from James Goudreau, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Soo Firehawks also got a goal from Michael Mullen as well. Other players who recorded assists for Soo Firehawks were Ryan Dalsky, Cody Anderson, Dyllon Anderson, and Daniel Bachynsky, who each chipped in one.

Detroit Fighting Irish forced Soo Firehawks' goalies to work all game long, finishing with 55 shots and forcing 51 saves. Nicolas Berlingieri made 18 stops and Michael Pelland made 33. Detroit Fighting Irish struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 23 penalty minutes for nine opposing power plays.

Detroit Fighting Irish was led by Jacob Hernandez, who racked up two goals. Hernandez scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 56 seconds into the second period to make the score 2-1 Detroit Fighting Irish. Shawn Mott picked up the assist. Hernandez's next tally on the power play made the score 4-3 Detroit Fighting Irish with 3:55 left in the second period. An interference penalty on Mullen had put Detroit Fighting Irish on the power play. Tristan Cruz provided the assist. Detroit Fighting Irish also had goals scored by Richard Pinkowski and Chase Tackett, who each put in one. In addition, Detroit Fighting Irish received assists from James Smith, who had two and Cody Dombrowski and Chuck Hicks, who contributed one each.

Soo Firehawks ended with 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. George Hill rejected 24 shots on goal for Detroit Fighting Irish.
