Michigan Ice Dogs wins tough contest against Decatur Blaze, 4-3

Michigan Ice Dogs gutted out a close 4-3 win against Decatur Blaze.

Neither team gained more than a one-goal lead, and Joseph Russo's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

Russo had two goals to lead Michigan Ice Dogs to victory.

Michigan Ice Dogs put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Decatur Blaze to score on any of its five power plays. Michigan Ice Dogs forced Decatur Blaze goalie Paul Stomper to work between the pipes, taking 53 shots.

Michigan Ice Dogs also got a goal from Ryan McNulty as well. In addition, Michigan Ice Dogs received assists from Marc Rotondo, who had two and Brent Young, Adam Winger, Gordon Sparks, and Spencer Godin, who each chipped in one.

Decatur Blaze's offense rang up 48 shots on Michigan Ice Dogs' net.

Decatur Blaze was helped by Ty Gehrken, who registered one goal. Gehrken scored 17:03 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Brandon Adler assisted on the tally. Decatur Blaze also had goals scored by Duncan Irvine and Richard Mischak, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Decatur Blaze were Luka Znidarsic and Joey Fowler, who contributed one each.

Christopher Boyd recorded 45 saves for Michigan Ice Dogs. Michigan Ice Dogs incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Decatur Blaze's Stomper stopped 49 shots out of the 53 that he faced. Decatur Blaze incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
