MC Monarchs survives Detroit Fighting Irish comeback, wins 6-4

Detroit Fighting Irish tried its best to erase a four-goal deficit, but MC Monarchs would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 6-4.

A goal by Adam Jonak put MC Monarchs up 6-2 in the third period, but Detroit Fighting Irish pulled to within two on Hunter Nielson's tally 19:23 into the third period.

MC Monarchs got the win behind a great game by Jonak, who had two goals and one assist. Jonak scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 8:31 into the second period to make the score 3-1 MC Monarchs. MC Monarchs had taken the advantage when Detroit Fighting Irish's Chuck Hicks got sent off for roughing. Trevor Pode provided the assist. Jonak's next tally on the power play made the score 6-2 MC Monarchs with 7:46 left in the third period. MC Monarchs had gotten the advantage when Detroit Fighting Irish's Zachary Cruz was sent off for checking from behind. Bryce Peplinski picked up the assist.

MC Monarchs additionally got points from Pode, who also finished with two goals and one assist. MC Monarchs also had goals scored by Alec Domin and Joseph Gibbs, who each put in one. More assists for MC Monarchs came via Jarrad Vroman, who had two and Mitchell Krust and Tyler Skulley, who contributed one each.

Detroit Fighting Irish forced MC Monarchs goalie Skulley to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots. Detroit Fighting Irish's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Detroit Fighting Irish finished with 25 penalty minutes.

Detroit Fighting Irish was helped by Jacob Hernandez, who registered one goal. Hernandez scored 8:06 into the third period to make the score 4-2 MC Monarchs. Detroit Fighting Irish also got points from Ken Winter, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Christian Ramage also scored for Detroit Fighting Irish. In addition, Detroit Fighting Irish received assists from James Smith, who had two and Michael Perry, Shawn Mott, and Robert Danyo, who each chipped in one.

MC Monarchs' Skulley stopped 31 shots out of the 35 that he faced. MC Monarchs totaled 21 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and one major and went 3-for-7 on the power play. George Hill made 13 saves before being replaced by Kory Dombrowski, who took the loss and made 11 saves. Detroit Fighting Irish registered two goals on six power play opportunities.
