Decatur Blaze squeaks by Berkley Bruins, 4-3

The game between Decatur Blaze and Berkley Bruins was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Decatur Blaze emerged with a 4-3 win.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Luka Znidarsic secured the win for Decatur Blaze with a goal in the third period.

Znidarsic had two goals and one assist to lead Decatur Blaze. Znidarsic scored the first of his two goals at 19:02 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Decatur Blaze. Znidarsic's next tally made the score 4-3 Decatur Blaze with three seconds left in the third period. John Urmetz picked up the assist.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 8:51 into the first period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Berkley Bruins was unable to stop Decatur Blaze from sending pucks towards the net, and Decatur Blaze eventually piled up 48 shots on goal.

Others who scored for Decatur Blaze included Shane Johnson and Micah Young, who each put in one. More assists for Decatur Blaze came via Nathan Zoellner and Joey Fowler, who contributed one each.

Berkley Bruins put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Decatur Blaze to score on any of its six power plays. Berkley Bruins could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 36 minutes in penalties during the game. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Berkley Bruins was led by Tory Shand, who had one goal and one assist. Shand scored 5:18 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Richard Gardner assisted on the tally. Berkley Bruins also had goals scored by Colton James and Timothy Muhsman, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Berkley Bruins were Alex Anderson, who had two.

Paul Stomper recorded 18 saves for Decatur Blaze. Decatur Blaze ended with 28 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors. Decatur Blaze ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Curtis Schlereth was ejected from the game. Berkley Bruins' Jacob Gorzelski stopped 44 shots out of the 48 that he faced. Berkley Bruins registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. For Berkley Bruins, Evan Wilson was ejected from the game.
