Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Detroit Fighting Irish defeated Michigan Ice Dogs in a shootout 4-3 (2-1 SO). The two teams needed 12 turns to complete the shootout. Michigan Ice Dogs got a shootout goal from Hunter Oatman. Detroit Fighting Irish also got a shootout goal from Jacob Hernandez.Detroit Fighting Irish overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Detroit Fighting Irish fell behind 3-2 after a goal by Michigan Ice Dogs' Ryan McNulty at 2:15 in the third period. Detroit Fighting Irish tied things up at 3-3 on a goal by Ken Winter at 14:18 in the third period. Winter had two goals to lead Detroit Fighting Irish to victory. Michigan Ice Dogs was unable to stop Detroit Fighting Irish from sending pucks towards the net, and Detroit Fighting Irish eventually piled up 33 shots on goal. Detroit Fighting Irish also got a goal from Nolan Jakrzewski as well. In addition, Detroit Fighting Irish received assists from Robert Danyo, Hernandez, Eric Long, and James Smith, who each chipped in one. Michigan Ice Dogs put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Detroit Fighting Irish to score on any of its six power plays.
