Soo Firehawks vanquishes Michigan Ice Dogs in shootout, 3-2 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Soo Firehawks defeated Michigan Ice Dogs in a shootout 3-2 (2-1 SO).

The shootout lasted for 10 attempts between the teams. Michigan Ice Dogs' shootout goal was scored by Joseph Russo. Soo Firehawks also got a shootout goal from Anthony Laaksonen.

Soo Firehawks overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Soo Firehawks was down 2-1 after a goal by Michigan Ice Dogs' Russo at 16:55 in the second period. Soo Firehawks tied things up at 2-2 on a goal by Cody Anderson at 30 seconds in the third period.

Soo Firehawks' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Michigan Ice Dogs power plays. Soo Firehawks forced Michigan Ice Dogs goalie Christopher Boyd to work between the pipes, taking 40 shots.

Soo Firehawks was helped by Dustin Brown, who finished with one goal. Brown scored 17:23 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Justus Mancuso picked up the assist. In addition, Soo Firehawks received assists from Noah Anderson and Daniel Bachynsky, who contributed one each.

Michigan Ice Dogs' offense rang up 31 shots on Soo Firehawks' net.

Michigan Ice Dogs was helped by Dallas Fritz, who registered one goal. Fritz scored 1:24 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Michigan Ice Dogs. Austin Stevens provided the assist. More assists for Michigan Ice Dogs came via Gordon Sparks, Ryan McNulty, and Marc Rotondo, who each chipped in one.

Soo Firehawks' Michael Pelland stopped 29 shots out of the 31 that he faced. Soo Firehawks incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Boyd rejected 37 shots on goal for Michigan Ice Dogs. Michigan Ice Dogs ended with 28 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors. Michigan Ice Dogs ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Cameron Kucharski was ejected from the game.
