Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Michigan Ice Dogs defeated Soo Firehawks in a shootout 3-2 (3-0 SO). The two teams needed seven turns to complete the shootout. Michigan Ice Dogs also got shootout goals from Hunter Oatman and Gordon Sparks.Michigan Ice Dogs overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Michigan Ice Dogs fell behind 2-0 after a power play goal by Soo Firehawks' Cody Anderson at 13:11 in the second period. Michigan Ice Dogs tied things up at 2-2 on a goal by Brent Young at 12:47 in the third period. Michigan Ice Dogs was paced by Dallas Fritz, who tallied one goal. Fritz scored 3:38 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Soo Firehawks. Austin Stevens assisted on the tally. Soo Firehawks was unable to stop Michigan Ice Dogs from sending pucks towards the net, and Michigan Ice Dogs eventually piled up 38 shots on goal. More assists for Michigan Ice Dogs came via Cameron Kucharski, Ryan Mcnulty, and Spenncer Godin, who each chipped in one. Soo Firehawks stifled Michigan Ice Dogs' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Soo Firehawks could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game. In addition, Soo Firehawks received assists from Matthew MacLaren, Daniel Bachynsky, Dustin Brown, and Anthony Laaksonen, who contributed one each.
