Huge game by Nkhata boosts Minnesota University of over Midland University, 10-2

Behind a great game by Jessica Nkhata, who had one goal and four assists, the Minnesota University of Golden Gophers defeated the Midland University Warriors, 10-2.

Nkhata beat Tessa Singleton with a shot 10:28 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Kate Schumitsch provided the assist. Nkhata dished an assist on Lauren Kirchoff's goal that made the score 4-1 Minnesota University of at 2:57 into the second period. He then added assists on Laura Gengler's goal at 10:59 into the second, on Molly Sparks's goal at 1:40 into the third, and on Sparks' goal at 12:20 into the third.

Minnesota University of bested its season scoring average. The Golden Gophers average 6.0 goals per game.

Minnesota University of also got points from Kelli Burstein, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Gengler, who also had three goals and two assists, and Sparks, who also finished with three goals and three assists to lead the team in points. Sonja Stojic also scored for Minnesota University of. In addition, Minnesota University of received assists from Rachel Dilley and Madison Ellis, who each chipped in one.

Midland University put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Minnesota University of to score on any of its six power plays.

The Warriors were helped by Kari Volk, who racked up one goal. Volk scored on the power play 9:18 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Midland University. Morgan Praska picked up the assist. Midland University also got a goal from Traci Corcoran as well. Other players who recorded assists for Midland University were Virginia Cooke, who had one.

The Golden Gophers incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Midland University incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
