Colorado State University uses big second period to beat Denver University of, 6-0

The Colorado State University Rams used a three-goal second period to put away the Denver University of Pioneers, 6-0.

Meghan Nelson spearheaded the defensive effort for Colorado State University, as he did not allow a puck past him and made 26 saves for the shutout. Nelson managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 1.1 prior to the game.

The Rams got the win with help from a great game by Avery Kauffmann, who had two goals and two assists. Kauffmann scored the first of his two goals at 6:57 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Colorado State University. Molly Oneil assisted on the tally. Kauffmann's next tally made the score 3-0 Colorado State University with 2:14 left in the second period. Hannah Samlowski picked up the assist.

Colorado State University put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Denver University of to score on any of its three power plays. The Rams forced the Pioneers goalie Sydney Firmin to work between the pipes, taking 42 shots. Colorado State University's goal total was higher than its season average. This season, the Rams average 3.6 goals per contest.

Colorado State University also got points from Oneil, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Colorado State University included Chandler Art, Michelle Harcrow, and Kelsey Mason, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Colorado State University were Nelligan Brown, Alicia Ziff, Sarina Perret, and Kelly French, who each chipped in one.

Denver University of stifled Colorado State University's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

The Rams incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Sydney Firmin made 36 saves for the Pioneers on 42 shots. Denver University of incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
