Sparks' hat trick boosts Minnesota University of over Midland University, 13-1Sidner Ice Arena Fri, Feb 13, 2015 A hat trick by Molly Sparks was the highlight in Golden Gophers' 13-1 win against the Midland University Warriors. Sparks notched his first tally 14:04 into the first period. He then added goals at 18:21 into the first and at 5:24 into the second.The Minnesota University of Golden Gophers scored early and often, and held a 4-0 advantage after the first 20 minutes of play. Minnesota University of's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Midland University power plays. The Golden Gophers forced Midland University goalie Tessa Singleton to work between the pipes, taking 40 shots. Minnesota University of outdid its season average for goals scored. The Golden Gophers have scored at the pace of 5.9 goals per game during the current campaign. Minnesota University of also got points from Kelli Burstein, who also tallied three goals and one assist to lead the team in points, Amanda Parranto, who also registered two goals and one assist, and Laura Gengler, who also finished with one goal and two assists. Others who scored for Minnesota University of included Cecilia Hardacker, who had two and Kristina Anderson and Madison Ellis, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Minnesota University of were Jordyn Haupert, who had one and Jessica Nkhata and Melissa Drown, who each chipped in two. Lydia Norwig made 18 saves for Minnesota University of on 19 shots. The Golden Gophers incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Singleton rejected 27 shots on goal for the Warriors. Midland University incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
