Rhode Island University of beats Penn State University 3-1 after comeback scare

The Rhode Island University of Rams survived a determined comeback attempt by the Penn State University Nitty Lions on the way to a 3-1 win.

A goal by Kristen Levesque put Rhode Island University of up 3-0 in the second period, but Penn State University pulled to within two on Riley OConnor's tally 3:12 into the third period.

The Rams were led by goalie Kayla DiLorenzo, who finished with 25 saves while allowing one goal. DiLorenzo certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 1.29 entering the contest.

Rhode Island University of excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Rams kept the Nitty Lions' goalie busy throughout the game, and Mary Kate Tonetti made 50 saves on 53 shots.

Rhode Island University of was led by Cassie Catlow, who tallied one goal and one assist. Catlow scored six seconds into the second period to make the score 2-0 Rhode Island University of. Bethany Saunders picked up the assist. Sydney Collins also scored for Rhode Island University of. More assists for Rhode Island University of came via Alisha Difilippo and Janessa Courtney, who each chipped in one.

Penn State University put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Rams to score on any of their four power plays. The Nitty Lions' offense operated below their season average. Penn State University puts an average of 3.4 pucks into the net per game.

In addition, Penn State University received assists from Claire Gauthier, who had one.

Rhode Island University of incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Nitty Lions incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
