Massachusetts University of squeaks by Vermont University of, 5-3

The Massachusetts University of Minutemen gutted out a close 5-3 win against the Vermont University of Catamounts.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Caleigh Labossiere's goal in the second period proved to be the difference maker.

Brittani Lanzilli had one goal and two assists to lead Massachusetts University of. Lanzilli scored 1:10 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Amanda Abromson picked up the assist.

Vermont University of's power play was ineffective against the Minutemen's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Massachusetts University of's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Vermont University of power plays. The Minutemen kept the Catamounts' goalie busy throughout the game, and Rosalie Gluck made 55 saves on 60 shots.

Massachusetts University of also had goals scored by Allie Stone, Ally Perdios, and Amy Morin, who each put in one. In addition, Massachusetts University of received assists from Michaela Tosone, who had two and Paige Harrington, Victoria Bortolussi, Alli Houde, and Meghan Crosby, who each chipped in one.

Vermont University of stifled Massachusetts University of's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Catamounts forced the Minutemen goalie Kasey Zegel to work between the pipes, taking 40 shots. The defensemen of Vermont University of were also effective in Massachusetts University of's zone, and came away with three goals.

The Catamounts were led by Monique Squiers, who had two goals. Squiers scored the first of his two goals at 21 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Vermont University of. Katherine Kreis assisted on the tally. Squiers' next tally made the score 3-3 with 4:48 left in the second period. Bethany Kelly also scored for Vermont University of. More assists for Vermont University of came via Carly Tashman and Emily Ford, who contributed one each.

Zegel rejected 37 shots on goal for the Minutemen. Massachusetts University of incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Vermont University of incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
