Gloucester vanquishes Kanata in shootout, 5-4 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Gloucester Rangers defeated the Kanata Stallions in a shootout 5-4 (1-0 SO).

The shootout featured five attempts between both teams.

Gloucester overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Rangers trailed 4-3 after a goal by Kanata's Carter Malette at 3:31 in the third period. Gloucester tied things up at 4-4 on a goal by Matt Adams at 13:57 in the third period.

The Rangers got the win on the strength of a great game by Joey Fallon, who had two goals and one assist. Fallon scored the first of his two goals at 16:56 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Jared Leslie assisted on the tally. Fallon's next tally made the score 2-2 with 13:47 left in the second period. Adams provided the assist.

Gloucester kept the Stallions' goalie busy throughout the game, and Brian Wilson made 37 saves on 42 shots.

Gloucester additionally got points from Adams, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Ryan Kuffner also scored for Gloucester. Other players who recorded assists for Gloucester were Dominic Rovero, who had one.

Kanata stifled the Rangers' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Stallions forced Gloucester goalie Doug Johnston to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots. Kanata outdid its season average for goals scored. The Stallions average 1.9 goal per game.

Kanata also had goals scored by Rowan Savidant, Brock Stashick, and Mike Tropea, who each put in one. More assists for Kanata came via Taylor Egan, Connor Cobbold, Devin Fullum, and James Thomson, who contributed one each and Bryce Biller and Ian Johnston, who each chipped in two.

Doug Johnston made 27 saves for the Rangers on 31 shots. Gloucester incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Kanata incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
